Levitra has a huge competitor in the form of Viagra; therefore, it does not pull any punches when it comes to side effects. For many, Levitra is much more effective and less risky than Viagra. In this guide, we will explore a few of the side effects that can be caused by this medication.
Most Common
Note: While these side effects are the most common it does not mean that you are guaranteed to experience one of them. Headaches are the most likely side effect of Levitra and are only an issue in 15% of patients. Anything else is much rarer; therefore, the need to worry is minimal.
All the 'most common' side effects go away inside a few hours. Therefore, it is up to you if you want to contact a medical official.
Headaches. As just mentioned the headache is the most common side effect. This is because the arteries in the brain expand, which causes pressure. This is not dangerous but can cause headaches.
Flushing. About 5% of people say that they experience hot flushes when taking Levitra. Once again, this only lasts for a couple of hours and will pass.
Upset Stomach. About 4% of people say that they have an upset stomach when taking Levitra. On the odd occasion, this can lead to diarrhoea.
Runny Nose. 4% of people also say they have a runny or stuffy nose when taking Levitra.
Dizziness. The least common of the most common side effects is dizziness. Around 2% of people say that dizziness is a problem, and all this requires you to do is sit down and relax for a couple of hours. It will eventually pass.
Rare Side Effects
All of the following side effects are rare but have been caused before. If one of these side effects happens to you, then you need to stop taking the medication and contact your doctor.
Priapism (An erection that will not go away). If you get an erection that lasts more than four hours then you need to visit your doctor ASAP. If you do not then the penis can struggle to gain an erection in the future because the tissue can be damaged.
Colour Vision. All ED medications block PDE5 to allow the penis to get the blood flow. However, sometimes there is a crossover and the PDE6 is blocked (which allows us to see colours like blue and green.) If this does happen then do not worry - it is only temporary, and in fact, it is up to you if you want to tell your doctor. At the same time, if you experience loss of vision or blurriness then you need to stop taking the medication and contact a doctor right away.
Tinnitus. PDE5 blockers can cause a decrease in hearing and on the rarest of occasions, loss of hearing. You may also find that Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) is an issue. If any of these happens make sure you talk to your doctor right away.
Additional Side Effects
There are some additional side effects that have been reported about but have not been listed as a side effect because the amount of people that have reported these problems is next to none. The side effects above are the most likely to be an issue for you. However, if you experience any changes when you start taking Levitra it is recommended to contact your doctor as a matter of urgency.
Remember, if some of the side effects are unbearable to you, then there are two other options in the form of Cialis and Viagra. You should always make sure you consult with your doctor before making your final decision.
